Eric,

Yeah, this is funny... and sad. But, is it really that much different from the standard order-of-service that most evangelicals use? Or the tried-and-true three point sermon with examination, illustration, and application for each point? Oh, and don't forget the catchy story or quote for the introduction...

Believe me, I'm pointing a finger at myself as much as anyone else.

I suppose the main difference is that this describes what seems to be a professional show. Meanwhile, most standard services seem like amateurs putting on a show. In the end, you are right - they are about the same. There certainly isn't room for mutual edification.

That was hilarious, yet so familiar... We've visited churches that seemed to follow that very format. We did not know then what we know now, but we did know something wasn't right.:-)

I laughed and laughed at this one. The big problem is really that it is a performance. Sadly, that is what we see in most churches.
