Followers Envy

Proverbs 14:30, "A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones."

James 3:16, "For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there."

I have been blogging for a while now and have 9 followers. My parents have been blogging for less than a month and, at last count, have 36 followers. If I add in my running blog followers, I have a total of 11 (and some of these are repeats so my total is actually less than 11).

How should I deal with this? Do I have "followers envy"? Maybe the picture below sums up my struggles.

Eric,

You have more followers than I.

Do you need to "deal" with it? I read your blog regularly, as I do several others, but am not going to sign up as a "follower".

I really don't want "followers" signing on; had far too many, and observed too many over the years as pastor. An occasional comment is nice, but not necessary either.

My confidence is this: I write what I sense I must write, and that those who our Sovereign God directs to read, will read, and I trust,be helped in some way.

John,

I hope your realized that this was tongue-in-cheek. However, we humans do have a terrible capacity for pride over the silliest things.

Actually, I'm very happy that my parents have so many followers because this should lead to much prayer support.

I found that pretty funny. I am guilty of checking my stats on sitemeter more often than I should. I have actually considered getting rid of it.

Arthur,

I think we all probably fall into the same boat. How silly we can be at times (and sometimes prideful as well).

Shallowfrozen,

Feel free to follow if you want. I still won't be anywhere near my parents' total. =)

It sort of makes one wonder just how Jesus felt at the cross.

A life lived in perfect obedience to the Father.

A life full of love and forgiveness.

A life that exhibited God to the whole world.

And yet who was left at the cross? His Mother and a couple of others that were there just because of her.

You ought not feel so bad.
