Another Homeschooling Benefit

I love Chick-fil-A. Now I'm going to get to eat at Chick-fil-A more than ever because our daughter Caroline has been hired at our nearby "inventor of the chicken sandwich."

One of the primary reasons Caroline was hired is that her schedule is flexible. The key is that she is available to work during the day. Many days this coming year she'll wake up, do some schoolwork, head to the restaurant to work from 10-2, come home, and finish her studies. I'm thrilled for her because she will learn how to work out in the world, have opportunities to witness for Christ, and will also be able to save for college.

Homeschooling allows for much freedom of schedule. This is a huge benefit for families. Alice and our kids can "go and do" as they please. They are not tied to a specific building or schedule. Please don't misunderstand; we do have a regular schedule. However, home educating lets us do other things that many other families cannot do.

I'm convinced that Caroline would not have been hired had she only been able to work after three PM. There is simply too much competition for those specific hours. Since she can work when most kids her age cannot, she now has a job. Thanks to homeschooling.

Since we are on the themes of Chick-fil-A and homeschooling, I've included a couple of Tim Hawkins videos for your viewing pleasure:

Brother Eric,
In my humble opinion, Chik-fil-A is a hypocritical organization because they advertise their Christianity as being somehow special because they are closed on Sunday. Jesus worked on Sunday. Do they follow Jesus? I'm confused. People who use the fish symbol and talk about how much they love Jesus....from my personal experience are either (1)Misguided and/or immature; or (2)Frauds.
That's just me.
I could be wrong, but I've been around the block a time or two and my BIG RED FLAG goes on full alert whenever somebody says "We're a Christian business! Come do business w/ us!"
That's phony to me.
Don't you think it's sort of cheap? Would Jesus approve of this advertising?

Joe,

That wasn't really the point of this post. I'm stressing that homeschooling allows for freedom of schedule. As for Chick-fil-A, I love it because I really like their chicken, not because they claim to be any sort of Christian organization. Regarding Sundays, I'm glad they are closed because this means our daughter will always be able to gather with us and our local church. Do they claim to be a Christian organization? I don't really know.

I'd like to address Joe G.'s concerns if I may: (this is Eric's wife)

I don't remember ever seeing a Chick-Fil-A advertisement that specifically mentions Christianity or that they are closed on Sundays. They are simply quietly closed on Sundays. I think they close on Sundays to encourage all their workers to gather with other Christians for fellowship and worship, and they know that for most Christians this takes place on Sunday. Their Corporate Purpose, which they give to all employees, is "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-Fil-A." For what it's worth....

Another thought on Joe G.'s comment...Jesus didn't work on Sunday, he ministered on Sunday. I believe there is a huge difference.
