Me: Before and After

In February of this year I weighed about 220 lbs. I decided that I had had enough of being overweight. When I looked it up at the time, I found that I had actually slid into the obese category. Yuck. Something had to be done.

By the grace of God, I gave up junk food, stopped drinking Coke, started eating healthier, and began running almost every day. I'm now down to my goal weight, which is 175 lbs. Now I have to learn how to maintain that (never a simple task). One motivator for me in all this is that I want to run in the Savannah Rock 'n' Roll Marathon this November. I've already signed up with no refund possible so there's no going back now. My training is on schedule. So far, so good.

As for the photos above, the top one is from last summer. The second was taken a few days ago.

  1. Great Job Eric! I am one who has battled with my weight throughout my entire life. Currently, I am 62 and was 267 at the beginning of the summer. Now, I'm 236 as of a couple of days ago. Keep on plugging away.

  2. Peter,

Excellent! Keep it up! What are you doing specifically to lose the weight?

  3. Hey Eric,

I have tried to stick to a balanced diet of protein, vegetables, and fruit. I have worked at limiting the amount of breads, starches, etc. It doesn't hurt that I have worked at riding my bike in the morning. I started out riding about 4 miles per day and I am up to 12 miles every other day. I'm starting to alternate days because riding everyday is getting quite old. I'm going to try to switch off with walking. I can't say that I will continue because I've got into spurts like this and then "fell off the wagon" so to speak. So, I will pray for your continued success and please pray for mine

  4. Peter,

Excellent! It sure isn't an easy task.

How weird it is that many of us in the affluent West have trouble keeping the weight off, while many in other parts of the world struggle to get enought to eat. What a messed up world we live in!

And yes, let's be praying for one another.

  5. Father,

Strengthen our resolve in our war against putting on the pounds. Strengthen our self-control as to what we put in our mouths and be our encourager by the power of the Holy Spirit, Amen!
