Discussing theology, church, mission, and culture
Eric,Sunday School has proven in my long experience to be less than helpful for the spiritual development of a person. As a relatively new comer to church practices, it is evidence that traditions harden into what is perceived as a "biblical" , and necessary rule, and sets up destructive patterns for the future.Without doubt, families together in service to one another, learning together, and discussing (even the youngest child) together, how to glorify and worship God, by the way we live and function with all humankind, with the emphasis on "all".
Just taught a canned preschool Sunday School lesson today, so this post is very timely.I generally agree that the popular model for Sunday School prepares kids to sit in church more than it prepares them to follow Jesus.I like the premise that Mike Breen suggests for children's ministry: parents should be the primary disciplers of their kids.
